As you may know we are in the process of moving officially from Scottsboro to Florence. We moved to Scottsboro in 1997 and this is the city where we worshipped, worked and grew. Now 23 years later we are packing, reminiscing and preparing to leave.
As we packed and repacked I can't begin to tell you the number of t shirts and trophies I came across. They were everywhere! From Brownwood, Page, SJHS and SHS. I found them from Samford, U of Mobile, Travel Ball and Dance. T shirts and trophies...everywhere!!!
Then it happened, as the kids started going through all that stuff, the overwhelming majority of them ended up in one of two piles, Trash or Thrift, as in store. All the work, time, money...the practices, meetings and fundraisers, and now it was all in one of two piles. I had to have a little moment with myself and wonder if I gave my kids more than just a T shirt and a Trophy?
My kids are now grown, married and working on grand babies...but I want to ask you something, What are you giving your kids? What type of investment are you making? It's so easy in our day to get T shirts and trophies, in fact, you don't even have to win today to get one. But one day that's going to all be trash or thrift store material...the Bible calls it wood, hay and stubble. I hope you won't wait til you move to find this out.
Mardis kids, my #24 gang, I hope the pursuit of your heart will be more than just the passing pleasures of this world, you know t shirts and trophies, but live your lives in such a way that our Lord is honored.
