Be a Tree

I was able to do a little yard work Tuesday evening so when I came outside early Wednesday morning, uh, less than 10 hours later, I was shocked to find several new 'mushrooms' in my yard. The one in the picture is five inches tall and it grew overnight. I was like, 'Man, you got to be kidding'. But sure enough they were there.
Mushrooms can grow quickly, in fact overnight!

That reminded me of Psalm 1:1-3. Here the Psalmist talks about being like a 'tree' not a mushroom. Really that's a decision each of us has to make.

The Psalmist spoke of descending into the lifestyle of the wicked (v1) or delighting in the Law of the Lord (v2). The first produces mushrooms and the second trees. I want to be a tree..do you?

According to v3, Trees are Planted (firmly planted), they are Positioned (by the streams of water), they are Productive (Which yields it's fruit), they Persevere (it's leaf does not wither) and they Prosper (and whatever he does he prospers). God promises to bless the godly man...his marriage, business, family...whatever!

In a world that's all about instant success and gratification....mushrooms...I see so many people who go up like a rocket but they come down like a rock. Friends, don't be that person. Don't buy in to the 'mushroom mentality', choose rather to be a tree that is deep rooted, fruitful and productive.
